Gadsden Independent School District Selects wordQ to Help Students Improve Their Writing

Software Enables GISD Students to Overcome Writing Hurdles and Advance Skills.

SUNLAND PARK, NM—The Gadsden Independent School District (GISD) has selected wordQ to help students district-wide improve their writing skills. GISD is another New Mexico school district that has adopted wordQ , bringing the total number of students in New Mexico, with access to wordQ, to about 105,000.

wordQ is a writing assistance tool that levels the playing field in the classroom for all students—regardless of their needs. It allows students to work on the same assignments, at the same pace with the same expectations, building confidence as writing skills progress. wordQ was created by goQ (www.goqsoftware.com). There are millions of users worldwide and is currently used by over 1,400 school districts in the United States.

The elegance of wordQ is in its simplicity. It can be used with most any word processing software and uses word prediction technology that makes smart word suggestions with every letter the student types. wordQ is also text reading software that helps writers proofread their work. High quality text to speech reads aloud everything that has been typed so the writer can hear any spelling or grammar issues that may not have been seen.

The first New Mexico school district to purchase wordQ district wide was installed in Albuquerque Public Schools over a year ago.

“wordQ, a favorite we bought district-wide, has been tremendously successful for our struggling writers who need help with spelling, grammar— the mechanics,” said Thor Spangler, assistive tech specialist at Albuquerque Public Schools.

"wordQ + speakQ helps bridge the disconnect between ability and knowledge and performance that we see a lot with kids and individuals," said Neil MacGregor, vice president of learner development with goQ ."Students can listen to the text and proofread their own writing. At the same time, they can get assistance spelling complicated words through sophisticated word prediction, which is similar to, but more advanced than, what you find on your cell phone."
